Anna Skaradzinska with her self portrait ColoryAni acrylic on plexiglass 11 x 37 inches
Reverse acrylic on plexiglass (painted on the other side of acrylic sheet - reverse process from traditional painting on top of a surface)
The most compelling aspect of myself is my presence. I am, in spite of how I experience life, I am, in spite of myself.
Introverted and shy by nature, I feel coming out is sometimes traumatizing and paralyzing event.
It involves practice and observation to be able to recognize when my energy is too subtle or too overbearing.
I chose to portray four parts of myself through four colors, creating texture which represents
the breaking of a shell out of which I emerge. BLUE sadness, emotional pain, cool. YELLOW warmth, safety, enlightenement. RED love, frustration, passion, anger. GREEN hope, rejuvenation, growth
Anna Skaradzinska was born in Poland. She has a B.S. in Graphic Arts from the University of Maryland.
After a professional career in illustration/design in New York City, she visited Kauai in 1995 and chose it as the place to settle.
Anna has been featured in invitational and juried exhibitions, including Kauai Society of Artists' Art Kauai, The Garden Island Arts Council's shows, and Schaefer Portrate Challenge 2003 at Maui Arts & Cultural Center.
Anna was chosen to be one of the 57 artists from Hawaii for the Schaefer Portrait Challenge 2012. This is a very challenging juried statewide exhibition of portraits of people who live and work in Hawaii. It is held once every three years.
From the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, "The artists whose works were selected for the 2012 Challenge are bonded by the desire to transpose the human likeness and interpret each sitter through paint, pastel, graphite, watercolor, stone, clay, wood or mixed media into the final result of a finished portrait."
